Expertise Rooted in Experience
Throughout my career, I have worked closely with individuals of all ages, but my specialisation also lies in working with adolescents.
I am a registered mental health nurse and have worked across many different areas and have experience of medication and how different services with within the NHS.
I started my career at age 18 working in a nursing home and then spent time on an acute admissions psychiatric ward for patients between the ages of 16 and 65. I have worked in Early Intervention Services for 14-18 year olds and Forensic CAMHS supporting 11-18 year olds as well as being part of a community team working with young people from the ages of 16-25. I have also worked in an adult acute admission ward and in early intervention services for psychosis. Much of my career has been based in Birmingham and I am used to working with the diversity such a city brings. I have been part of community mental health teams including EDIT early detection intervention teams for young people with psychosis and the ADHD team. I was part of the nurse led psychological service for 16-25 year olds working in both primary and secondary care with people with complex needs.
I understand the unique challenges that young people face, from academic stress and peer pressure to identity exploration and emotional difficulties. My extensive experience and training have equipped me with the skills and knowledge to effectively address these challenges and guide adolescents towards improved mental well-being.
Passionate About Your Progress
My passion for working in the field of mental health emerged from my desire to make a positive impact on people's lives. In 2010 I started my Post Graduate Degree in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and then built up my hours in practice and became accredited with the BABCP in May 2015. I left the NHS around 12 months after to concentrate on working with people that could not be seen when they needed to by the NHS.
I am a friendly warm, genuine person and I value these qualities as do the people I treat. One of my main areas of expertise is working with young people and their families where needed.
This is something that I have had great experience in and have some great results from.
Collaboration for Effective Change
At CBT with Kristy, I believe that therapy is most effective when it is a collaborative process. Together, we will create a safe and non-judgmental space where you can openly express your thoughts and feelings. Drawing from my vast experience and training, I will work closely with you to explore the underlying causes of your difficulties and develop tailored strategies that are unique to your needs. I have experience of working with CAT (Cognitive Analytical Therapy) and DBT (Dialetical Behaviour Therapy) this means that where appropriate I can draw on these models if the needs arise. My role as your therapist is to provide you with the skills, strategies and techniques to manage the way you are feeling and you will be able to draw on these tools long after the therapy has been completed. Through our collaboration, we will empower you to take an active role in your healing journey.
